Progeria is a rare genetic condition that causes a person to age prematurely. Children with progeria appear healthy, but by the age of 2 years, they look as if they have become old too fast.

Causes

Most children with progeria have a mutation on the gene that encodes for lamin A, a protein that holds the nucleus of the cell together. This protein is also known as progerin.Progeria is a genetic condition.
The defective protein is thought to make the nucleus unstable. This instability makes cells more likely to die younger, leading to the symptoms of progeria.
It seems to happen because of a rare genetic change. One parent may have the mutation, even though they do not have progeria.
There is not usually any family history, but if there is already one child in the family with progeria, there is a 2 to 3 percent chance that another sibling will have it.
Genetic testing can show whether a parent has the mutation or not.

Symptoms

A newborn with progeria looks healthy, but by the age of between 10 months and 24 months, features of accelerated aging start to appear.
Signs of progeria include:
  • limited growth and short stature
  • lack of body fat and muscle
  • loss of hair, including eyelashes and eyebrows
  • early signs of skin aging, including thin skin
  • stiffness in the joints
  • visible veins
  • stroke
  • narrow, wrinkled, or shrunken face
  • a head that is large compared with the body
  • a small jaw bone
  • slow and abnormal tooth development
  • a high-pitched voice
  • limited range of motion and possible hip dislocation
  • generalized atherosclerosis, leading to cardiovascular and heart disease
The connective tissue in the skin tends to become tough and hardened.
Tests may also show signs of insulin resistance, but cholesterol and triglyceride levels should be normal.
Progeria does not impact the child's brain development or intelligence, and it does not mean a higher risk of infection. It does not affect motor skills, so children with the condition can sit, stand, and walk like any other child.
Children from any ethnic background can have progeria, but they will have a similar appearance.

Treatment

[Progeria occupational therapy]Occupational therapy can help to address joint stiffness.
There is no cure for progeria, but occupational and physical therapycan help the child keep moving if their joints are stiff.
Heart health is critical for people with progeria, so the doctor may prescribe statins, nitroglycerin for angina, and routine therapy for congestive heart failure.
Eating healthily and getting regular exercise are important.
Some patients may have cardiac surgery to slow the progression of heart disease.
Self-care tips may include eating different foods when the lipid, or fat, profile begins to change, and eating small meals regularly to maximize calorie intake.

Sun screen is important for protecting the skin, and padding in shoes can help minimize discomfort caused by a lack of fat padding on the body.

Diagnosis

Tests and procedures used to diagnose mouth cancer include:
  • Physical exam. Your doctor or dentist will examine your lips and mouth to look for abnormalities — areas of irritation, such as sores and white patches (leukoplakia).
  • Removal of tissue for testing. If a suspicious area is found, your doctor or dentist may remove a sample of cells for laboratory testing in a procedure called a biopsy. Unusual cells can be removed using different techniques, but are most often cut away using a scalpel, scissors or another surgical tool. In the laboratory, the cells are analyzed for cancer or precancerous changes that indicate a risk of future cancer.

A brain tumor is a serious neurological condition where a collection or mass of abnormal cells form due to some reason and may cause some neurological or life-threatening problems. Brain tumor is present in the brain due to an injuryor bacterial cells. Any cell can form into a tumor and these tumors can come in all shapes and sizes as there are many brain tumortypes. Moreover, as time passes these tumors can also growand suppress the brain and cause many neurological problems. However, it is also very easy to identify early symptoms or brain tumor causes to treat it before it creates problems for the body.
If the tumor is in such a part of the brain that controls the human eyes or near the eyes region, it can cause possible blindness or if it’s in the memory region then it causes memory loss.
Similarly, there are many problems it can cause in any part of the brain, however, there are still some symptoms of brain tumorthat you should be careful about.
If you are careful by learning brain tumor ki Pehchan in Urdu then you may be successful in preventing them:

GETTING TREMOR (SHOCKING FEELING IN ANY BODY PART):

The first sign may be small tremors (jhatkay) in any part of the body. The reason is because the tumors cause inflammation in the brain which causes it to lose neurons and the lose causes disturbance throughout the body in the sign of tremors. There are also several types of tremors caused by the tumor that can either affect the whole body or shock in some parts.

Ramadan fasting

Fasting during Ramadan carries a high risk of dehydration as food and drink are limited to before sunrise and after sunset. Furthermore, as fasting individuals are encouraged to wake up very early to have their Suhoor (or pre-dawn meal), sleep deprivation and dehydration can lead to headaches.

“Healthy fasting is possible if you consume the right foods and in the right quantity,” says Ms Tan Sheau Kang, Dietitian, Department of Dietetics,Singapore General Hospital (SGH), a member of the SingHealth group.
Here are some tips on healthy fasting:

1. Don't skip Suhoor (pre-dawn meal)

As the saying goes, ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’. And during Ramadan, it becomes even more important!
Although skipping Suhoor to have uninterrupted sleep may sound appealing, you shouldn’t.
Ms Tan explains, “Skipping Suhoor prolongs the fasting period as your body will need to rely on the previous meal to provide you with all the nutrients and energy until Iftar (dinner). Due to the longer hours of fasting, you are more likely to feel dehydrated and tired during the day. Furthermore, skipping Suhoor also encourages overeating during Iftar, which can cause unhealthy weight gain.”

2. Don't overeat during Iftar (dinner)

Just as it is not advisable to skip Suhoor, overeating when it is time to break the fast can harm your body.
Iftar should be a well-balanced, nutritious meal and not a feast! Overeating and excessive consumption of high-fat foods in particular may result in indigestion and weight gain. “Slow down and enjoy each mouthful of your food,” recommends Ms Tan.

3. Avoid eating fried foods, salty foods and high-sugar foods

It is not uncommon for fasting individuals to reward themselves with rich, greasy, fried and sugary dishes come meal time. While these foods make you feel good in the short run, they can make fasting the next day more difficult.
“Aside from the unhealthy weight gain, consuming fatty and sugary foods also cause sluggishness and fatigue. In addition, you should limit your intake of salt, especially during Suhoor (pre-dawn meal), as this increases thirst,” advises Ms Tan.
Instead, try incorporating foods from all the major food groups including fruit and vegetables, rice and alternatives, as well meat and alternatives. Consuming fibre-rich foods during Ramadan is also ideal as they are digested slower than processed foods so you feel full longer.

4. Drink as much water as possible

Drinking as much water as possible between Iftar (dinner) and Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) reduces your risk of dehydration during fasting.
“Make every effort to drink at least 8 glasses of fluids daily before dawn and after sundown. Fluids include juices, milk, beverages and soups but water is the best choice,” says Ms Tan. Ideally, you should also cut down on caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea and colas as these have a diuretic effect and promotes fluid loss.

When you burn your tongue, all you want is to know when it'll feel better. Burning your tongue is a common nuisance when you don't notice how hot your food or drink is before taking a bite or sip. It may even cause the papillae (the natural bumps on your tongue) to temporarily disappear. Not paying attention or neglecting to test your food and drinks before digging in is usually the cause, and it's easy to do.
An oral burn calls for a swift response if you want to ease the pain. Fortunately, there are several burning tongue remedies that can help next time a swig of steaming coffee or bite of pizza hits a nerve.
1. Sip and Soothe
Your first response to a tongue burn dictates the speed of your recovery, and this first step is simple. As with any minor burn you may experience, cold water can quickly regulate the tongue's irritation. Drink a glass to bring down the temperature of your burning tongue and to keep your mouth hydrated (saliva flow is key to ensure bacteria don't further harm the area). Stay away from hot foods and drinks, which will only irritate the burn, until it heals.

2. Cool It Down
After the "event" itself, consume something soft and cold to numb the stinging sensation naturally during the day. Reach for a food that's easy to eat, like a fruit cup, yogurt or some applesauce – all of which can help calm the burning sensation.

Since wheat constitutes about two-thirds of the grains eaten in the United States, most U.S. studies of “whole grains” in the aggregate can be considered to attest to the benefits of whole wheat. So on this page, we’ve limited the universe to studies that focus in on the benefits of particular varieties or forms of whole wheat.

ANTIOXIDANTS HIGH, IN EMMER AND EINKORN

In Ankara, Turkey, scientists at Hacettepe University’s Department of Food Engineering compared 18 ancients wheats (12 emmer, 6 einkorn) with 2 modern bread wheats, to assess their total phenolics and flavonoids, phenolic acids, lutein, total yellow pigment, and total radical scavenging capacities. Results showed “remarkably higher total antioxidant activity” in emmer varieties, and “quite high levels of lutein” in the einkorn samples. In conclusion, the findings were considered to be key to “breeding wheat varieties for higher concentration and better composition of health-beneficial phytochemicals.”

ORGANIC WHEAT JUDGED TASTIER

Scientists at the University of Alberta baked whole wheat bread using the same cultivar of hard red spring wheat grown both conventionally and organically. They then asked 384 consumers to rate the taste – once, with unlabeled samples and no knowledge of the different origins, and again, after the breads had been labeled and the different growing conditions described. Consumers rated the taste of the organic bread higher both in the blind test and the informed test. Their ratings were unaffected by information on the environmental benefits of organic farming, but they liked the organic bread even more after learning of the potential health benefits of organically-grown foods.

“WHOLE” WHOLE WHEAT SATISFIES LONGE

Researchers in Malmö, Sweden conducted a blind cross-over trial with 13 healthy adults to see If bread made largely with intact wheat kernels satisfied subjects longer than bread made with whole wheat flour, or refined wheat flour, and how the addition of vinegar would affect satiety. (Acetic acid, or vinegar, is known to increase satiety and lower postprandial blood glucose and insulin response.) The whole-kernel wheat bread with vinegar satisfied longest, even though it had the same amount of fiber as the whole wheat flour bread.

ANCIENT WHEATS HIGHER IN HEALTHY CAROTENOIDS

Canadian researchers from the Food Research Program, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada evaluated several primitive and modern wheat species, and found the highest levels of carotenoids including lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene in Einkorn. Durum, Kamut® and Khorosan had intermediate levels, while common bread or pastry wheat had the lowest levels of carotenoids.  The carotenoids studied are thought to be important to eye health, among other functions.
MAGNESIUM MAY EXPLAIN DIABETES BENEFITS OF WHOLE WHEA
It’s thought that foods with a lower glycemic index may improve insulin sensitivity. Yet whole wheat bread, with a glycemic index almost identical to bread made with refined wheat, has been found to promote insulin sensitivity when compared to the “white bread.” Researchers at Pantox Laboratories in San Diego, California, hypothesize that magnesium may be responsible, and urged “the strong desirability of choosing whole grain products in preference to refined grains.”

LESS ALLERGENIC WHEATS IDENTIFIE

Scientists in Shizuoka, Japan screened 324 varieties of wheat from around the world, in an effort to find varieties less likely to trigger allergies to gluten, gliadin, and alpha-amylase inhibitor. Einkorn, along with rare varieties from Mexico, Ecuador, China, and Italy, were found to be among the least allergenic.

ANCIENT WHEAT BREADS DIGESTED DIFFERENTL

Researchers at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, in Frederiksberg, Denmark, compared three different loaves: einkorn bread made with honey-salt leavening; naturally-leavened einkorn bread made with crushed whole grains; and commercial yeast bread made with modern wheat. The naturally-leavened einkorn loaves significantly reduced the gastrointestinal response of GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotrophic polypeptide), a hormone important in controlling insulin secretion.

WHEAT FLOUR PARTICLE SIZE DOESN’T AFFECT GLYCEMIC RESPONS

USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, in Beltsville, MD, asked twenty-six healthy adults to consume four different samples: glucose solution, traditional white (refined) bread, conventional whole wheat bread, or bread made with ultra-fine whole wheat. The researchers then determined the subjects’ glycemic response, and determined that both whole wheat flours (conventional and ultra-fine) had similar effects. They concluded that “the particle size of whole grain wheat flour did not substantially affect glycemic responses.”

Overview

Itchy skin is an uncomfortable, irritating sensation that makes you want to scratch. Also known as pruritus (proo-RIE-tus), itchy skin is usually caused by dry skin. It's common in older adults, as skin tends to become drier with age.
Depending on the cause of your itchy skin, it may appear normal. Or it may be red or rough or have bumps or blisters. Repeated scratching can cause raised, thickened areas of skin that may bleed or become infected.
Self-care measures such as moisturizing, using anti-itch products and taking cool baths can help relieve itchy skin. Long-term relief requires identifying and treating the cause of itchy skin. Itchy skin treatments include medications, wet dressings and light therapy.

Symptoms

You may have itchy skin over certain small areas, such as on an arm or leg, or over your whole body. Itchy skin can occur without any other noticeable changes on the skin. Or it may be associated with:
  • Redness
  • Bumps, spots or blisters
  • Dry, cracked skin
  • Leathery or scaly texture to the skin
Sometimes itchiness lasts a long time and can be intense. As you rub or scratch the area, it gets itchier. And the more it itches, the more you scratch. Breaking this itch-scratch cycle can be difficult, but continued scratching can damage your skin or cause infection.

When to see a doctor

See your doctor or a skin disease specialist (dermatologist) if the itching:
  • Lasts more than two weeks and doesn't improve with self-care measures
  • Is severe and distracts you from your daily routines or prevents you from sleeping
  • Comes on suddenly and can't be easily explained
  • Affects your whole body
  • Is accompanied by other signs and symptoms, such as extreme tiredness, weight loss, changes in bowel habits or urinary frequency, fever, or redness of the skin

Causes

Possible causes of itchy skin include:
  • Dry skin. If you don't see a crop of bright, red bumps or some other dramatic change in the itchy area, dry skin (xerosis) is a likely cause. Dry skin usually results from older age or environmental factors such as long-term use of air conditioning or central heating, and washing or bathing too much.
  • Skin conditions and rashes. Many skin conditions itch, including eczema (dermatitis), psoriasis, scabies, lice, chickenpox and hives. The itching usually affects specific areas and is accompanied by other signs, such as red, irritated skin or bumps and blisters.
  • Internal diseases. Itchy skin can be a symptom of an underlying illness. These include liver disease, kidney failure, iron deficiency anemia, thyroid problems and cancers, including leukemia and lymphoma. The itching usually affects the whole body. The skin may look otherwise normal except for the repeatedly scratched areas.
  • Nerve disorders. Conditions that affect the nervous system — such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes mellitus, pinched nerves and shingles (herpes zoster) — can cause itching.
  • Irritation and allergic reactions. Wool, chemicals, soaps and other substances can irritate the skin and cause itching. Sometimes the substance, such as poison ivy or cosmetics, causes an allergic reaction. Food allergies also may cause skin to itch.
  • Drugs. Reactions to drugs, such as antibiotics, antifungal drugs or narcotic pain medications, can cause widespread rashes and itching.
  • Pregnancy. During pregnancy, some women experience itchy skin, especially on the abdomen and thighs. Also, itchy skin conditions, such as dermatitis, can worsen during pregnancy.

Complications

Itching skin can affect the quality of your life. Prolonged itching and scratching may increase the intensity of the itch, possibly leading to:
  • Skin injury
  • Infection
  • Scarring

How to Get Rid of Yellow Teeth

Changes in the color of your teeth may be subtle and happen gradually. Some yellow color may be inevitable.
Teeth can look more yellow especially as you age. As the outer enamel wears away, the yellowy dentin underneath becomes more visible. Dentin is the calcified tissue beneath the enamel.
If you’re looking to whiten your teeth, you do have some alternatives to conventional methods.

Remedies for yellow teeth

Here are seven natural options for getting rid of yellow teeth. It may be best to choose a few treatments and rotate them throughout the week. Experiment to find a solution that works for you.

1. Brushing your teeth

Your first plan of action should be to brush your teeth more often and in the correct manner. It’s especially important that you brush after consuming foods and drinks that can lead to yellow teeth.
Brush your teeth at least twice a day for two to three minutes at a time. Make sure you get into all of the cracks and crevices. Brush your teeth in a circular motion to ensure you’re protecting your gums. Brush the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces of your teeth.

2. Baking soda and hydrogen peroxide

Using a paste made of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide is said to remove plaque buildup and bacteria to get rid of stains.
Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after brushing with this paste. You can also use the same ratio of ingredients to make a mouthwash.
A 2012 study found that people who used a toothpaste containing baking soda and peroxide got rid of tooth stains and whitened their teeth. They showed significant improvements after six weeks. Further studies are needed to determine if the results persist after they stop using the toothpaste.

3. Coconut oil pulling

Coconut oil pulling is said to remove plaque and bacteria from the mouth, which helps to whiten teeth. Always use a high quality, organic oil that doesn’t contain harmful ingredients.
Swish 1 to 2 teaspoons of liquid coconut oil in your mouth for 10 to 30 minutes. Don’t let the oil touch the back of your throat. Don’t swallow the oil as it contains toxins and bacteria from your mouth. Spit it into the toilet or a wastepaper basket, as it could clog drains. Rinse your mouth with water and then drink a full glass of water. Then brush your teeth.
There are no specific studies that confirm the teeth whitening effect of oil pulling. However, a 2015 study found that oil pulling using sesame oil and sunflower oil reduced gingivitis caused by plaque. Oil pulling could have a whitening effect on teeth, as plaque buildup can cause teeth to turn yellow. Further studies on the effect of oil pulling with coconut oil are needed.

4. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can be used in very small amounts to whiten teeth.
Make a mouthwash by mixing 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with 6 ounces of water. Swish the solution for 30 seconds. Then rinse with water and brush your teeth.
Research from 2014 found that apple vinegar has a bleaching effect on cow teeth. However, it should be noted that it has the potential to cause damage to the hardness and surface configuration of teeth. So use it with caution, and only for short amounts of time. More human studies are needed to expand upon these findings.

5. Lemon, orange, or banana peels

Some people claim that rubbing lemon, orange, or banana peels on your teeth will make them whiter. It’s believed that the compound d-limonene, which is found in some fruit peels, will help to white your teeth.
Gently rub the fruit peels on your teeth for about two minutes. Make sure to thoroughly rinse out your mouth and brush your teeth afterward.
Scientific research proving the effectiveness of using fruit peels to make teeth whiter is lacking. However, a study from 2010 looked at the effect of a toothpaste containing 5 percent d-limonene in removing stains from smoking and tea. People who brushed with a toothpaste containing d-limonene combined with a whitening formula twice daily for four weeks significantly reduced smoking stains, though it didn’t remove long-standing smoking stains or tea stains.
Further studies are needed to determine if d-limonene is effective on its own.
A study from 2017 tested the potential of citric acid extracts from four different types of orange peel as a teeth whitener. They were shown to have varying abilities on whitening teeth, with tangerine peel extract achieving the best results.

6. Activated charcoal

You can use activated charcoal to remove stains from your teeth. It’s highly absorbent and is also said to get rid of bacteria and toxins in the mouth.
Open a capsule of activated charcoal and put the contents on your toothbrush. Gently brush your teeth using small circles for two minutes. Be especially careful in the area around your gums as it can be abrasive. Then spit it out.
If your teeth are sensitive or you want to limit the abrasiveness of the charcoal, you can dab it on your teeth. Leave it on for two minutes.
You can also mix activated charcoal with a small amount of water to make a mouthwash. Swish this solution for two minutes, and then spit it out. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water after using activated charcoal.
More scientific evidence is required to investigate the effectiveness of activated charcoal in teeth whitening. Research from 2015 found that activated charcoal was more abrasive than a whitening toothpaste on dental acrylic resins. The researchers didn’t conclude that activated charcoal isn’t suitable for teeth whitening. Its absorbent nature has the potential to remove stains. However, it should be noted that charcoal powder could become embedded in margins or cracks that are especially present in older teeth.

7. Eating fruits and vegetables with a higher water content

It’s said that eating raw fruits and vegetables with a high-water contentcan help to keep your teeth healthy. The water content is thought to cleanse your teeth and gums of plaque and bacteria that lead to yellow teeth.
Eating crunchy fruits and vegetables at the end of a meal may increase saliva production. This can help to remove food particles that are stuck in your teeth.
While there’s no doubt that a diet high in fruits and vegetables is good for your dental and overall health, there’s not a lot of scientific evidence that supports these claims. That said, eating these healthy foods throughout the day or at the end of a meal certainly won’t do any harm.
Specific scientific studies are needed to confirm these claims. One studyshowed that using a baking soda and strawberry mix wasn’t effective in whitening teeth.
Research from 2007 found that vitamin C deficiency can increase the severity of periodontitis. While the study didn’t look at the whitening effect of vitamin C on teeth, it links high-plasma vitamin C levels to healthy teeth. The research suggests that high levels of vitamin C can reduce the amount of plaque that causes teeth to become yellow.
A study from 2012 found that a toothpaste containing papain and bromelain extract showed significant stain removal. Papain is an enzyme found in papaya. Bromelain is an enzyme present in pineapple.
Further studies are warranted to expand upon these findings.

What causes yellow teeth?

There are many factors that can cause teeth to turn yellow. Teeth can become yellow from:
  • certain foods or drinks, such as blueberries, red wine, coffee, or tea
  • a diet high in sugar and simple carbohydrates
  • smoking or chewing tobacco
  • side effects of certain medications and mouthwashes
  • age, as older adults are more likely to have yellow teeth
  • genetics
  • mouth trauma
  • excessive fluoride use
  • poor dental care and oral hygiene
  • chronic dry mouth or lack of saliva

Neck torment is a typical grievance. Neck muscles can be stressed from poor stance — whether it's hanging over your PC or slouching over your workbench. Osteoarthritis additionally is a typical reason for neck torment.
Once in a while, neck agony can be an indication of a more major issue. Look for medicinal care if your neck torment is joined by deadness or loss of quality in your arms or hands or on the off chance that you have shooting torment into your shoulder or down your arm.

Side effects

Signs and side effects include:

Agony that is regularly exacerbated by holding your head in one place for long stretches, for example, when driving or working at a PC

Muscle snugness and fits

Diminished capacity to move your head

Cerebral pain

At the point when to see a specialist

Most neck torment enhances slowly with home treatment. If not, see your specialist.

Causes

Your neck is adaptable and bolsters the heaviness of your head, so it can be powerless against wounds and conditions that reason torment and confine movement. Neck torment causes include:

Muscle strains. Abuse, for example, an excessive number of hours slouched over your PC or cell phone, regularly triggers muscle strains. Indeed, even minor things, for example, perusing in bed or gritting your teeth, can strain neck muscles.

Worn joints. Much the same as alternate joints in your body, your neck joints tend to wear out with age. Osteoarthritis causes the pads (ligament) between your bones (vertebrae) to weaken. Your body at that point frames bone goads that influence joint movement and cause torment.

Nerve pressure. Herniated circles or bone goads in the vertebrae of your neck can push on the nerves stretching out from the spinal line.

Wounds. Backside car accidents frequently result in whiplash damage, which happens when the head is yanked in reverse and afterward forward, stressing the delicate tissues of the neck.

Maladies. Certain ailments, for example, rheumatoid joint pain, meningitis or malignancy, can cause neck torment.

Counteractive action

Most neck torment is related with poor stance joined with age-related wear and tear. To help counteract neck torment, keep your head focused over your spine. Some basic changes in your day by day routine may help. Consider attempting to:

Utilize great stance. When standing and sitting, make sure your shoulders are in a straight line over your hips and your ears are straightforwardly finished your shoulders.

Take visit breaks. On the off chance that you travel long separations or work extended periods at your PC, get up, move around and extend your neck and shoulders.

Modify your work area, seat and PC with the goal that the screen is at eye level. Knees ought to be somewhat lower than hips. Utilize your seat's armrests.

Abstain from tucking the telephone between your ear and shoulder when you talk. Utilize a headset or speakerphone.

On the off chance that you smoke, quit. Smoking can put you at higher take an enormous risk torment.

Abstain from conveying overwhelming sacks with ties behind you. The weight can strain your neck.

Rest in a decent position. Your head and neck ought to be lined up with your body. Utilize a little pad under your neck. Take a stab at mulling over your back with your thighs raised on pads, which will straighten your spinal muscles.

Diagnosis

Your doctor will take a medical history and do an exam. He or she will check for tenderness, numbness and muscle weakness, as well as see how far you can move your head forward, backward and side to side.

Imaging tests

Your doctor might order imaging tests to get a better picture of the cause of your neck pain. Examples include:
  • X-rays. X-rays can reveal areas in your neck where your nerves or spinal cord might be pinched by bone spurs or other degenerative changes.
  • CT scan. CT scans combine X-ray images taken from many different directions to produce detailed cross-sectional views of the internal structures of your neck.
  • MRI. MRI uses radio waves and a strong magnetic field to create detailed images of bones and soft tissues, including the spinal cord and the nerves coming from the spinal cord.
It's possible to have X-ray or MRI evidence of structural problems in your neck without having symptoms. Imaging studies are best used as an adjunct to a careful history and physical exam to determine the cause of your pain.

Other tests

  • Electromyography (EMG). If your doctor suspects your neck pain might be related to a pinched nerve, he or she might suggest an EMG. It involves inserting fine needles through your skin into a muscle and performing tests to measure the speed of nerve conduction to determine whether specific nerves are functioning properly.
  • Blood tests. Blood tests can sometimes provide evidence of inflammatory or infectious conditions that might be causing or contributing to your neck pain.

Treatment

The most common types of mild to moderate neck pain usually respond well to self-care within two or three weeks. If neck pain persists, your doctor might recommend other treatments.

Medications

Your doctor might prescribe stronger pain medicine than what you can get over-the-counter, as well as muscle relaxants and tricyclic antidepressants for pain relief.

Therapy

  • Physical therapy. A physical therapist can teach you correct posture, alignment and neck-strengthening exercises, and can use heat, ice, electrical stimulation and other measures to help ease your pain and prevent a recurrence.
  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Electrodes placed on your skin near the painful areas deliver tiny electrical impulses that may relieve pain.
  • Traction. Traction uses weights, pulleys or an air bladder to gently stretch your neck. This therapy, under supervision of a medical professional and physical therapist, may provide relief of some neck pain, especially pain related to nerve root irritation.
  • Short-term immobilization. A soft collar that supports your neck may help relieve pain by taking pressure off the structures in your neck. However, if used for more than three hours at a time or for more than one to two weeks, a collar might do more harm than good.

Surgical and other procedures

  • Steroid injections. Your doctor might inject corticosteroid medications near the nerve roots, into the small facet joints in the bones of the cervical spine or into the muscles in your neck to help with pain. Numbing medications, such as lidocaine, also can be injected to relieve your neck pain.
  • Surgery. Rarely needed for neck pain, surgery might be an option for relieving nerve root or spinal cord compression.

Many natural foods, plants and herbs have been used for centuries for their healing abilities. Before modern Western medicine existed, our ancestors relied solely on nature to help them heal their injuries and overcome their illnesses. Most natural remedies are without the dangerous side effects of over-the-counter and prescription drugs. You might be pleasantly surprised at the many problems and symptoms you can address with simple combinations of salt, pepper and lemon!
